Magenta has decidedly to plug on right along despite being swallowed whole by AT&T. It’s just a tad anticlimactic given this weekend’s big news, but T-Mobile announced yesterday they are unveiling 42 Mbps HSPA+ broadband service in three cities, and of course, a phone along to go with it.
To complement its newfangled network, they are announcing the T-Mobile G2x, which will be the first phone able to fully take advantage of the improved super-speedy data capabilities.
The otherwise LG-manufactured Android phone has a 4-inch screen, along with a 1Ghz dual-core processor making it similar to most Android phones hitting the market. It’s also got a 8 MP camera and LED flash built in the thing. Perhaps its only downfall? It runs Android Froyo instead of the more advanced Gingerbread.
The phone is supposed to release in the spring, but the dudes over at TmoNews think it might hit April 20th, just a month from now.
T-Mobile plans to start the data network service in three cities, starting with New York, Las Vegas and Orlando. There are plans to loop in Chicago and the greater New York area following the initial launch. They expect up to 25 markets before “mid-year,” so they’re moving relatively quickly.
