Call it a record, or just a whole lot better than Windows “rhymes-with missed-ya,” Microsoft says Windows 7 can lay claim to 350 million licenses sold since it launched on October 22, 2009.
And that’s about all they said, meaning no, we don’t have the breakdown in terms of full copies, upgrades, versions bundled with new PCs, or volume enterprise sales, though they did add something about it being “the fastest selling operating system in history.”
I couldn’t say one way or another. Google “fastest selling operating system in history” and you get a bunch of January 2010 stories in which Microsoft was claiming the same. I’m not sure it’s something Guinness even tracks.
Not, you know, that any other operating system publisher comes to mind.
