AT&T is finally making good on its promise to enable 4G uploads for Motorola’s Atrix 4G.
For reasons not entirely clear, AT&T was holding back upload speeds on the powerful smartphone, and was doing the same for HTC’s Inspire 4G. Although both phones are are capable of High-Speed Uplink Packet Access, or HSUPA, uploads were handled by a slower protocol at launch. So instead of getting maximum upload speeds of 5.5 Mbps, users were capped at measly 300 kbps.
After weeks of complaints, AT&T finally came clean in late March, saying it needed more time for “testing and preparations,” and promising to turn on HSUPA through a software update in April. It looks like that time has come
Atrix users can find details on the update, which will be delivered over the air, here. The update fixes some other odds and ends, such as the volume of Skype calls, data interruptions and general call functionality. I haven’t seen anything about an update for HTC’s Inspire 4G, but I’m assuming it’ll be close behind.
