Man FINALLY Sends a Tweet from the Top of Mount Everest

Back in October, I wrote about the 3G cellular connection that’d been installed at the base of Mount Everest.

I sat back in my chair, stroked my non-existent beard, and wondered “how high people can climb while still getting service.” Surely not to the top!

As it turns out, people can climb all the way to the top and get service.

Famous mountain climber Kenton Cool recently sent the first Tweet from the top of Mount Everest. The 3G signal was weak but “the awesome Samsung Galaxy S2 handset” was able to lock onto it. So this is a marketing stunt by Samsung but, hey, it worked.

Cool also unboxed the Samsung Galaxy S2 from Mount Everest’s base camp back in May if you’re interested in further witnessing technology encroach on the last few untainted frontiers found in nature.
