Bank of America to Text Customers Overdraft Warnings

Well, at least you’ll know when you’re spending beyond your means now. Bank of America is planning a new service that will send you a text message checking whether or not you want to allow purchases that will push your bank account into the red. The notifications will offer BoA customers the chance to go temporarily into overdraft with the ability to refill your account within 24 hours before incurring a $35 overdraft fee. Theoretically, it’ll also offer customers the chance to not actually go into overdraft at all by refusing the purchase, but let’s face it: It’s really just a chance for people to know how poor they’re making themselves as they do it.

The service is aimed for a 2012 rollout.
