When Glenn Beck first announced that he was leaving his daily Fox News show later this year, millions of people were naturally curious about his next venture. But the country’s most controversial talk show host has decided that he will do the next most logical thing to hosting a show: start an online discount website.
Yes, that’s right. Glenn Beck and his company, Mercury Radio Arts, are entering the e-commerce business with Markdown.com. But no worries, the conservative firebrand isn’t losing his, well, personal moral touch. Beck has made it clear that the reasoning behind his deals site is jam-packed with good ol’ American values.
“As a small business owner myself, I understand the daily challenges that entrepreneurs face and how frustrating it can be to get well-deserved attention for a great product or service,” Beck said in a statement “With Markdown.com we will be able to feature these great local and regional businesses right alongside some of the most well-known brands in America.”
The site is essentially identical to Groupon and LivingSocial (sans the official “Value and Values” tagline) and will offer discounted deals on various products. The first deals are for Chocolate.com and LifeLock, an identity theft prevention company.
The site also boasts a referral system. If a user refers a friend to the site and the friend buys something, then the user gets an additional 10% off the discounted price. That means 10 referrals will get you the item for free. Gee, thanks, Glenn!
Beck plans to plug the site across his entire media empire, which includes his news service The Blaze and a syndicated radio show that draws about 10 million listeners a week.
Sure, the site’s out to make money, but let’s not forget about the high expectations we have come to expect from Beck over the years, including honesty and integrity. And the site, ladies and gentlemen, aims to provide those things to the everyday American shopper just looking to save some hard earned money (and avoid a socialist takeover).
“Markdown is a place where I will be able to connect you directly with the products and retailers that I love,” Beck said.
In the near future, you won’t be able to connect to him through the beloved chalkboard conspiracies on his show anymore, but you can sense his presence in your pocketbooks. Now, that’s what restoring honor is all about!
