Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 Update with Battery Fix is Live!

It looks like Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 update (build 9A405), which includes the anticipated battery life fix for iPhones that bleed electricity, has hit the airwaves. If you want it fast and you already have iOS 5.0, you can try updating direct from your iPhone (under ‘Settings’ – ‘General’ – ‘Software Update’). If your iPhone tells you it’s sitting pretty at iOS 5.0, the alternative’s to either wait as the update’s rolled across Apple’s distribution servers, or grab it through iTunes, where it’s apparently available to all.

I’m looking at the update screen on my iPhone 4 now—it’s 53.9MB—and claims to fix “bugs affecting battery life,” “Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad,” “Resolves bug with Documents in the Cloud” and “Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation.”

The update’s compatible with every iOS back to third-generation iPod Touch devices.
