70%

A majority of Americans under 30 have pirated material online, although if it makes the music, television and movie industries feel any better, they’re doing it a lot less than you might think. A new study called “Copy Culture in the US and Germany” has revealed that 46% of all Americans have downloaded copyrighted material illegally at some point, with that number shooting up to 70% for Americans between 18-29 years of age. On the bright side, most people are only occasional pirates, with only 2% of the 2,303 surveyed having downloaded more than 1,000 songs, and 1% downloading more than 100 TV shows or movies, and many of the respondents to the Princeton Survey Research Associates phone poll reported that they have already shifted to more legal ways of obtaining media online.
