First it was a school in Bulgaria naming a school after him. Now, a man in Hungary is commissioning a seven-foot bronze statue of Steve Jobs to be erected in a Budapest technology park.

Sculptor Erno Toth is basing his work on a photo of Jobs presenting an iPhone on the cover of an old issue of The Economist. He is clothed in his standard uniform: black turtleneck, jeans and thin, wiry glasses.

The 440-lb. statue is being bankrolled by Gabor Bojar, who runs a software company called Graphisoft. According to Reuters, Bojar claims he was inspired by Jobs after meeting him almost 30 years ago at a tech conference.

Yes folks, it appears that all the elements of a Steve Jobs religion are manifesting themselves: false idols, mythical last words (“Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.”), candlelit shrines outside of Apple Stores. It’s only a matter of time before some entrepreneur builds a Steve Jobs statue overlooking Silicon Valley, arms spread wide, Christ the Redeemer-style.
