BioShock was one of the best games ever made…with one of the worst endings, a deficiency remedied by the superior BioShock 2. BioShock Infinite looks to be a rehash of BioShock’s dystopian augment-thyself-Neal-Stephenson-style through a retro-futura lens. It takes place on the floating city of Columbia (the poetic feminine name for the United States) and probably has American exceptionalism in its crosshairs. As with prior installments, expect incrementally smarter enemies, intense first-person shootouts, gorgeous vistas (however improbable, you soar through Columbia’s cloud top architectonics using grappling hooks) and piles of convention-flouting plot twists.
