Acer has just announced the 10.1-inch Iconia Tab A200, an Android tablet with a suggested starting price of $330 that’ll be available on January 15. I’d expect the tablet’s retail price to clear the $299 mark once it hits retailers, if not shortly thereafter.

The A200 weighs in at 1.5 pounds and features a 1280×800-resolution multitouch screen; the whole shebang’s powered by a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and Android 3.2 “Honeycomb” software. Acer says it’ll be upgradeable to the latest version of Android – 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” – in February.

Other features include a full-size USB port for hooking up peripherals, six-axis accelerometer and a memory card slot for expanding the tablet’s overall storage.

The tablet should make for a decent option if you’ve got your heart set on a 10-incher but don’t want to shell out $500 for an iPad. Acer’s first 10-inch tablet, the A500, performed well when I had a chance to play around with it last year, at least.

Acer’s known for pricing its gear competitively, and it’s been able to keep the starting price of this tablet down by omitting a rear facing camera – there’s a front-facing camera, though – and offering just eight gigabytes of storage on the entry-level model. There will be a 16-gigabyte version available at launch as well with a suggested price of $350.
