Kid Recreates Skyrim on TI-84 Graphing Calculator

Back in my day, kids used their graphing calculators to play games with boring, vague names like “Snake” and “Brick Breaker.” Not this intrepid student, who programmed his TI-84 Plus graphing calculator to give school kids everywhere a new way to pretend they’re doing work in math class while secretly battling through a homebrew version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Skyrim, in case you didn’t know, is the dragon-filled role-playing game from Bethesda that sold 3.4 million copies in its first two days on sale.

Okay, so the TI-84 version’s not quite as…visually vibrant. Still, YouTube user no9sniper has — to the consternation of high school teachers everywhere — created a simple, text-based RPG that lets you wander around “Skyrim” doing many of the things you can in the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game: accept quests, earn money and kill wolves (so … many … wolves).

No word yet if this TI-84 tribute might eventually include such celebrated Skyrim features as Lydia (your bodyguard) blocking random doorways, or jail time for killing chickens.
