Today is Presidents Day, and as with any holiday – major or minor – retailers are offering up deep discounts, hoping you’ll use your free time to pick up some new gear. Here’s a look at eight of the better gadget deals I’ve been able to track down this morning.

HP 20-inch monitor: $80 at Staples

s0374663_sc7Finding a 20-inch monitor on sale for under $100 isn’t impossible, but $80 for this HP model is pretty aggressive. Staples has knocked $60 off the regular price and is offering free shipping – the monitor has scored an average 4.5 out of 5 in 600+ customer reviews, too.

Dynex 32-inch 720p LED-backlit TV: $200 at Best Buy

3054311_sbBest Buy discounts its house-brand Dynex sets fairly regularly, but $200 for a 32-inch LED-backlit TV is a good deal any way you slice it. You’re missing out on a full 1080p resolution, but that set can be had for $20 more.

Samsung Galaxy Note: $250 at Amazon

51d2UKgfRNL._AA280_The new, almost-comically-large 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note is being sold via AT&T for $300 with a two-year contract, though Amazon Wireless is selling the same device for $250 (also with a two-year AT&T contract).

Seiki 42-inch 1080p LED-backlit TV: $300 at Sears

spin_prod_600858201Sears has a wheel of a deal on this 42-inch, LED-backlit, 1080p TV made by Seiki. I can’t vouch for the brand, though the set itself has gotten good reviews from owners and $300 for a 42-inch LED-backlit TV with a 1080p resolution is a stellar deal.

HP Pavilion 14-inch laptop: $480 at Staples

s0437464_sc7HP sells this laptop for $650, but Staples is combining a $120 instant discount with a $50 mail-in rebate to price it at $480. The machine features an Intel Core i5 CPU, 6GB of RAM, 640GB hard drive and a DVD burner in a 4.4-pound package.

Magellan GPS with lifetime maps and traffic: $80 at Amazon

51w6uwFmFlL._AA300_This 4.3-inch Magellan GPS system is pretty well-priced at $80, but the real value is in the included lifetime subscription to map updates and real-time traffic alerts. The GPS also includes spoken directions and built-in AAA Tourbook info.

Acer 24-inch 1080p monitor: $130 at TigerDirect

A179-2360-mainv02-ecTigerDirect is selling this 24-inch, 1920×1080-resolution Acer monitor for $130 when you use coupon code SLQ55588 at checkout. The monitor sports DVI and VGA inputs, weighs just shy of 13 pounds and features a 5-millisecond response time.

Sony PlayStation 3D Display bundle: $300 at Best Buy

2891051_sbSony’s 24-inch 3D gaming display (see Matt’s review here) costs $400 and up elsewhere, but Best Buy is selling it for just $300. You get the 24-inch screen, 3D glasses, Motorstorm Apocalypse and an HDMI cable included.
