Despite its insane difficulty, Q*Bert was a big hit in the early 1980s. The goal of jumping on all the cubes while avoiding bad guys started out simple, but quickly got complicated as you had to jump on each cube multiple times, and that darned snake Coily started chasing you around. At least the fact that Q*Bert swore (“@!#?@!”) when he got hit made coping with failure easier. Strangely, a “Q*Bert Deluxe” appeared in the App Store in 2009, but now it’s no longer available.
