Shoppers look at the tablet computer IPad 2 at a Best Buy Store on the shopping day dubbed "Black Friday" in Framingham, Massachusetts.

With the launch of Apple’s iPad 3 reportedly weeks away, Best Buy is trying to dump its iPad 2 inventory at a $50 discount per model.

The 16 GB iPad 2 now costs $450 at Best Buy. The 32 GB model is selling for $550, and the 64 GB model is selling for $650. For 3G connectivity, add $130 to the price of all models.

Are these smart buys? Probably not. The iPad 3 is rumored to launch next month, with Apple believed to be holding a media event during the first week of March. According to the oft-reliable John Paczkowski at All Things Digital, Apple will release the iPad 3 roughly a week after the event. That’d be two weeks from now.

Even if you don’t care for the latest and greatest specs on the iPad 3, such as a higher resolution display and faster processor, you’ll probably save money on the iPad 2 if you can contain yourself for a couple weeks. Apple seems likely to give the iPad 2 a $100 price drop after launching the iPad 3, as it did with the original iPad did last year.

As enticing as Best Buy’s discount may seem, you can do better with a just a little patience.
