And a great hush came over the world as Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China initiated the download of Where’s My Water? Free.

Free though the app may have been, Chunli Fu’s fortuitous timing ultimately resulted in the awarding of a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, according to Apple, as part of “the App Store Countdown to 25 Billion Apps.” In other words, my entire weekend spent obsessively downloading Cake Pop Maker over and over again was in vain.

Aside from learning that Apple handed out a $10,000 gift card, the company’s press release touted 550,000 apps available in 123 countries to more than 315 million Apple portables, “with more than 170,000 native iPad apps available.”
