Callaway is now letting creative duffers personalize their own RAZR Fit drivers online with the new “udesign” (get it?) customization platform.

You’re able to choose your own club head (mens or ladies; right- or left-handed; 8.5-, 9.5-, 10.5- or 11.5-degree loft and one of eight accent colors), shaft (light, regular or stiff as standard options, with available premium options), grip (type and thickness) and club length (plus or minus two inches with varying degrees in between).

And what sort of online personalization would be complete without the ability to share your creation with the rest of the world? Per Callaway’s press release, “When finished, each user can view multiple angles of their configuration and also send their unique RAZR Fit design to friends and contacts via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Email through a dedicated share function.”

Even without being customized, the driver itself isn’t exactly cheap — it’s $399 direct from Callaway – and running it through the virtual udesign machine will add a minimum of $50 to the price tag. Swapping the standard shaft out for one of the many optional premium shafts makes things more expensive still. I was able to work my way up to $674 before getting a stomach ache induced by the thought of spending $674 on a single golf club.

But if you’ve got some money to burn and you know what you like, this doesn’t seem like a bad way to deck out your own driver – especially given the club length and grip thickness tweaks that are available. You’ll need to exercise a bit of patience, though, as orders take up to two weeks to be delivered and won’t start shipping out until May.
