Buy: From Lytro
Price: $400 and up
This fancy little future-of-photography tech toy is one of the best gifts of the year for a true geek dad. The Lytro Light Field Camera captures all of the rays of light in a scene. Why is that so special? Because it means he can focus or refocus after he’s taken a picture. He can also shift perspective and switch seamlessly between 2D and 3D views. That means regular snapshots become living pictures.
On the downside, $400 is a lot of money for most of us to spend on dear old dad, even if it makes him top techie of his geek crew. Also, until the end of 2012, this gadget only works with a Mac. But if Dad’s a real gadget-loving early adopter and you have the extra dough to spend, this is a perfect choice.
