In August, TIME published a special report, The Wireless Issue, examining the many ways in which mobile technology is changing our lives and shaping our world. “Just as remarkable as the power of mobility, over everything from love to learning to global development, is how fast it all happened,” the introduction read. “It is hard to think of any tool, any instrument, any object in history with which so many developed so close a relationship so quickly as we have with our phones.” As part of the special issue, TIME, in cooperation with Qualcomm, launched the TIME Mobility Poll, a survey of close to 5,000 people of all age groups and income levels in eight countries.

This week, TIME continued the conversation about the impact of the wireless revolution with a special panel discussion, The Future of Mobility, at the Newseum in Washington, DC. Travis Kalanick, co-founder and CEO of Uber, was featured in the keynote Q & A with TIME executive editor and Washington bureau chief Michael Duffy at the event Wednesday, Sept. 19. Panelists included Aneesh Chopra, senior advisor at the Advisory Board Company; Isobel Coleman, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations; Matt Flannery, co-Founder and CEO of Kiva; Judith McHale, president and CEO of Cane Investments, LLC; and Rey Ramsey, president and CEO of TechNet.
