Well, ladies and gentleman, the war of the photo filters has begun.
In an update released on December 10th, Twitter added photo filters to its iOS and Android apps. Now, this shouldn’t come as a surprise – especially considering the recent series of events. Just last week, Instagram pulled the plug on its support for Twitter Cards, a tool that embeds your beloved square photos seamlessly when viewing an expanded tweet in your Twitter stream.
If you’ve really grown attached to the square format of your Instagram photographs, you’re in luck. Twitter allows you to crop images (square included) as you please. The new filter system also offers a similar “Enhance” function that automatically adjusts the contrast levels of your photographs. While Instagram offers 18 free filters, Twitter launched with just eight filters: Vignette, Black & White, Warm, Cool, Vintage, Cinematic, Happy and Gritty.
If you’re curious about the new Twitter photo filters, you’re in luck — I tested out each filter so you don’t have to. Click through these images to get a glimpse of what you can expect from Twitter’s new photo filters. Plus, if you’re an Instagram power-user, I recommended the Twitter filters that would work best for you based on your favorite Instagram filters.
