Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for iPad May or May Not Exist

If a review emerges before a game's announced, does it make a sound?

Good old IGN, so far ahead of the PR curve it’s able to review games that don’t exist — or didn’t prior to reviews appearing from the ether. Take Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a game originally released for Xbox, Windows and OS X in 2003/2004. IGN claims it’s not only laid hands on an iPad version, it’s already played and reviewed the thing, awarding it the sort of doting score you’d expect for a game that once commanded multiple game of the year awards and made our own All-TIME 100 Video Games list last year.

IGN’s verdict:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic still holds up, and remains a must-play for younger players who didn’t catch it the first time around. Though the iPad version’s touch controls make movement clumsy, most of its changes are for the better. If you haven’t played it before, or want to experience it again, this is a great way to do it.

I poked around Apple’s App Store this morning, and sure enough, no KOTOR. [Update: I’m not alone — Joystiq was just as perplexed this morning.] If I had to guess, I’d say it’ll be out this week (today?) given the review, but then it’s already Thursday, so who knows. Maybe IGN jumped the gun. Keep your powder dry and I’ll update this story when we learn more.

[Update: IGN’s KOTOR iPad page, which I somehow missed — shame on me — indicates Aspyr handled the port, that the game is out today, 5/30, and that you can grab it for $10. While you’re waiting for it to turn up on Apple’s App Store, the game’s official iTunes page just went live.]
