After Launching a Cheap iPhone, Apple Could Be Going Big

Following next week’s release of a cheaper iPhone, could Apple have plans for phones with screens as large as six inches?

Apple's iPhone 5 on sale at a store in central London, Britain, 21 September 2012. Apple fans queued for up 0to a week outside stores in London in anticipation of the phone’s release.

At a release event next week, Apple is expected to unveil its first budget version of the iPhone. However, the bigger news, literally, seems to lie ahead. The Wall Street Journal reports that the California-based company is currently evaluating models with a range of screen sizes, spanning from 4.8 to 6 inches, as compared to the 4 inches of iPhone 5.

Offering iPhones in different sizes is a clear sign that the company is searching for a strategy to compete with market leader Samsung’s large-screen smartphones, and to counter inroads made by Samsung and other competitors in countries such as China and India.

I think it is a good thing that Apple has decided to do this. I think it will allow people who cannot afford the regular iPhone's to be able to enjoy the features and the latest technology Apple has to offer. Some people think they are competing with Samsung, In a way they are. Every one is competing with some body or some one.  I just hope that these Phones are not a cheaply made version. Apple allows us to do a lot of things they just make it more simple to complete these things, I am a big apple fan. Its all about money in these businesses. apple may not be the top brand, but if they were a little cheaper they could be. So in there new approach to the iPhone they could easily rise to the top.

The bigger screen approach may be copying other phone retailers, I don't think that would be the smartest thing to do. they need to keep the original format just change how the software works. They need to be original and not fall into other phone retailers category. If they want to be at the top they need to come out with new things no one else has or will have. I know it is hard to do but if they want to be like no one else that is what they need to do instead of going with the bigger screen.

Apple is just copying Samsung.

What's the matter with American company's.  They use to be innovators.  Now they are just playing catch up.

They spend too much time trying to cut costs and not enough time creating products that people want to buy.  When they came up with the.  I'm still using my iphone 4s.  Everything they've come out with since then has just made me yawn and say "why buy a new iphone"

Now the rumors are that the new iphone will be just as 'BORING"...a finger print 'on' button...yawn.  A bigger screen...yawn.

All hand held devices should be illegal when used in public or behind the wheel of any vehicle.  The manufacturers of hand held devices should be held liable for damages resulting from any incident involving a hand held device.  Being that hand held devices kill more people than guns, the manufacturers, promoters and retailers of hand held devices should be held to the same standards and requirements as those manufacturing or selling firearms.

@MiloBendech Apple copying Samsung is foolish.

What would you like, a phone that pays your bills. It's a phone with incremental upgrades. You bought the 4s for a particular reason -- Don't be late to the iphone 5 game.

@brenro12 Who's the leader?

Apple is the leader and will be leading China soon.

@laurenchooker Nope.  Six inches is a world away from eight inches.  Having a Mini is the reason I will NOT be getting one of the larger iPhones.  My phone is for calls and texting, and to act as a hot spot for my tablet.  I rarely use it's data plan for anything other than hot-spotting, maybe half a dozen times a month since I don't take my pad to work to have available at lunch.

@littleredtop And so Big Tobacco should be responsible for all those smokers who smoke out of free will right?

@littleredtop Oh, and you might want to proof your positions before posting:

2011 gun deaths: 8583 (The Guardian)

2011 distracted driving deaths plamed on "devices": 3331 (CDC)

@littleredtop "Being that hand held devices kill more people than guns, the manufacturers, promoters and retailers of hand held devices should be held to the same standards and requirements as those manufacturing or selling firearms."

So, no standards at all then, right?
