UnikeyLocks and keys have been found in ancient Egypt, and probably date back beyond that era. So it boggles the mind that everything you own, from your home, to your car, to your storage unit, is protected by the same, archaic technology. The Unikey Kevo deadbolt doesn’t greatly change this concept, but adding Bluetooth technology to the mix makes for a big step forward. The $220 battery-powered lock can detect when authorized smartphones, tablets, or other equipped devices come into range (less than a couple feet). When they do, users can simply touch the lock to open it, bypassing the key altogether. An accompanying iOS app (other platforms are currently in development) lets owners monitor the lock, as well as send e-keys to friends' devices. For those who don’t have a smart device, the lock comes with a Bluetooth-equipped fob.
