I’m not burning a candle for a Vita version of the best game in this series, Final Fantasy XII, given what a slog of a time Square Enix seems to be having bringing high-def versions of Final Fantasy X and X-2 to the system. It was supposed to be here ages ago, wasn’t it? For most of this year, it was in “TBD 2013″ limbo before slipping to 2014. A few weeks ago, we heard the PlayStation 3 remasters were headed to North American on March 18, 2014, but nothing official about the Vita versions.

Until today: Square Enix product manager Sakura Minamida says the Vita version is also coming on March 18, 2014. It’ll support cross-save (between the PS3 and Vita) and it’ll go for $40. You’ll be able to buy it at retail or digitally for either system, and whichever version you buy, it’ll include both X and X-2 (in Japan, last I heard, the Vita versions were going to be sold separately; the games are out in Japan on December 26).

The other last-minute surprise, though not really, is that Square Enix is going to sell a collector’s edition of the PlayStation 3 version of the game, exclusive to the Square Enix online store. The company’s tucking a full-size 40-page artbook in, the soundtrack on a Blu-ray music disc (over six hours, paired with images from the game, which probably beats holiday music played over video of a fireplace), and five lithographs of character and game art. The collector’s version will set you back $80.
