Insert an animated GIF of Michael Keaton swinging a cane at a vase here: Target just slashed the price of Nintendo’s 3DS XL by 25%, dropping it from its typical $200 perch to a crazyland $150.

Reasons to buy a 3DS? The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Pokemon X & YThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DFire Emblem: AwakeningAnimal Crossing: New LeafEtrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.

Reasons to buy the upsized 3DS XL model specifically: Because the it’s all kinds of improved, and the extra nearly inch-and-a-half of diagonal upper screen real estate is priceless if you want to play long-form stuff (that would be most of the titles listed above). Also, the regular 3DS lists for $170, so you’re getting the much superior handheld for $20 less.

While you’ll have to visit a Target store in person to pick any of the standalone models up, it looks like Target’s selling the “3DS XL with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team – Silver – Limited Edition” online for $150, too (that’s right, a limited edition silver 3DS XL with a game for the same price as the discounted versions with no game, which is still $20 less than a non-XL 3DS).

Target cancelled my order because of "availability" and sent me an email telling me that I could reorder.  When I tried to reorder, they had raised the price by $50.

I bought the Nintendo 3DS XL Mario & Luigi: Dream Team limited edition at my local target (Salem,NH) for $149.99, so I don't know why you couldn't, they were even selling the limited Zelda 3DS XL for $149.99 as well.

It's a gimmick… the bundle with Mario game is not available online ($149) ..they will NOT honor the price in the store - in store $199..  You could buy the 3Ds with no game for $149…  the bundle is available in store.. they want you to spend the extra $39 for the game..
