Whether you know it or not, you have a bunch up apps pulling down new content all day long. That creates a strain on your battery. Here’s how to fix it.

1. Go into Settings, then General, then Background App Refresh.

2. The apps listed here are all pulling down data at various times throughout the day, so that the new data can be displayed for you when you fire up each app. The apps with an arrow next to them are even checking in on your location throughout the day. Disable each app one by one, or just hit the slider up top that says Background App Refresh to turn them all off.

3. Your battery should now last a bit longer each day. The tradeoff is that each time you load one of the apps you disabled from the Background App Refresh menu, you’ll have to wait the app to churn a bit more as it loads up new data. If that becomes too annoying, simply go back into the menu and turn on the apps you want to pull down data throughout the day.
