If you download game demos as much as I do, then you’ll be glad to hear that Nintendo is giving us free demos for its WiiWare titles. Starting today, the company is letting players test drive brand-new title Pokémon Rumble (above) as well as older games BIT.TRIP Beat, Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord, NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits and World of Goo.
(This is part 2 of an irregular series about my attempts to turn my daughter into a complete dork.)
I’m not entirely sure how I missed this news earlier. Oh wait, yes I do, I’ve been busy building out TECHLAND! Anyway, Movela and Pyxis Mobile are building a RIM exclusive Craigslist Mobile App for the BlackBerry platform. The $5 app will allow BlackBerry users to peruse any and all Craigslist ads. Take that iPhone and Android users!
A new Marvel character has been revealed today and his name is Hitman Monkey. Yes, he’s a Japanese macaque that happens to be a hitman. Executive Editor Alex Alonso describes Hitman as a “soulful, tortured, jazz-loving 30-pound engine of destruction.” Oh, he’s also the monkey equivalent of Chow Yun Fat from ‘The Killer’ but I’m hoping he’s more like Chow Yun Fat in ‘Hard Boiled’ since he’s wielding dual pistols. Daniel Way will write Hitman Monkey with Dalibor Talijic handling art duties.
I’ve never been one to take Twitter’s suggestions as to who to follow. I follow who I want, when I want. It appears as though their much-vaunted “suggested users” list is going the way of the dodo, says the AP out of Malaysia. Speaking at a conference in Putrajaya, Biz stone announced that the list would be “going away” and “In its stead will be something that is more programmatically chosen, something that actually delivers more relevant suggestions.” No date was given as to when the list would be going away. Stone also hinted that suggestions could be tailored to users’ interests. New features are also on the way: more translation and faster message forwarding.
AT&T has announced the upcoming availability of the BlackBerry Curve 8520. It’s a no frills, low-end BlackBerry with a 512 MHz processor, 2-megapixel camera, optical trackpad, Wi-Fi and 256MB of built-in memory. Available in the coming weeks, the 3G BlackBerry Curve 8520 will retail for $99.99 after a MIR and 2-year contract.
Welcome to TECHLAND. If you’re joining us from our previous perch over at Lev’s Nerd World blog then expect to see a lot of the same thing, but on a much larger scale. I know. It’s different, unfamiliar and somewhat frightening. We’re creatures of comfort and steer clear of change if we can help it but this is something different and special. Contrary to popular belief and what our name evokes, TECHLAND isn’t just about tech. Long story. You can read about it over here.
