Avatar is now officially back in movie theaters – only in 3D, with nine additional minutes of footage to woo all of those loyal fans who were still enamored with the glowing forests of Pandora when the movie was prematurely yanked from the nation’s theaters to make way for Alice in Wonderland in March.
Oh, Piranha 3-D, we love you so. All the blood, all the screams, all the unneeded 3-D nudity – you’re so bad, but so, so right.
The big movie talk of Comic-Con – really, of the entertainment industry as a whole – is 3-D.
I hope you’ll pardon the lack of clarity in this post. I’m halfway through processing a reaction – on my way towards forming a cohesive thesis; All I have right now is a contradiction, that I’m trying to work out.

Avatar is still chugging along, eyes fixed on toppling Titanic as the biggest box office haul of all time. But this is already a movie that’s done more than just alter our perceptions of popularity and profitability (though sequels are already apparently in the works – read our report from Friday here)
I took my second trip to Pandora Friday night – this time at a different IMAX 3D screen, with a couple hundred giddy first-timers. You can find a recap of my first impressions a week ago here. (You can also read the complete Avatar roundtable discussion here) As for round two, my thoughts:
Okay, here’s the deal. You’re thinking about seeing Avatar tonight, yes, or this weekend? You know it features blue people. And that it’s set on a different planet.
