Some news out of the Tokyo Game Show for you this Thursday morning, PS3 owners. 3D Blu-ray playback compatibility is coming a few weeks earlier than expected with a firmware update set to go live on September 21. Sony did not divulge whether or not firmware v3.50 will unlock or fix anything else. Still, there aren’t a whole lot of those …

Panasonic Bets the Bank: Avatar, Future of Cinema, to Be Future of 3D TV
Once upon a time, back in the glory days of Hollywood’s studio system, vertical integration was the key. If a studio made a film, you could probably only see that movie in their theaters. From the ground up, until the Supreme Court struck it all down of course, the studios tried to perfect an insulated little system that they could …
3D Blu-ray Playback on PS3 Delayed
Time to put your sad face on because Sony is delaying the firmware update that will allow 3D Blu-ray playback on your PlayStation 3. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for the delay that was announced back in January at CES. Alas, you won’t be able to dive into that ginormous catalog of 3D Blu-ray titles until October.

Blizzard: We’d Love James Cameron to Direct Starcraft, Too
MTV Multiplayer‘s posted a nerdgasm-inducing bit of info that could bring two awesome sci-fi visions together, if we all wish hard enough. Fujifilm Tries Again With the FinePix REAL 3D W3 Camera
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again. Or something like that.
Following up on last year’s first-ever stereoscopic 3D camera, Fujifilm has announced the second-generation FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera. Specs seem to be mostly unchanged from the W1 but the W3 shoots 3D in 720p. The exterior has been trimmed and …
Panasonic Expands 3D HDTV Line, Offers 2D to 3D Conversion
We typically wouldn’t cover something as mundane as the launch of a new line of 3D HDTVs but the Panasonic GT25 line of full HD 3D rigs converts 2D to 3D on the fly. We’re still in the process of testing and reviewing the VT25 that was announced at CES but we’ll surely follow that up with a review of this new line shortly after. …

3D Smartphone Coming From Sharp Later This Year, No Glasses Required
Sharp, the one time maker of the now defunct KIN and Sidekick brands, has declared it will bring to market a smartphone with a 3D panel that doesn’t require glasses by year’s end. It will likely have a 3D camera in tow, too. But will it be any better than the display on the Nintendo 3DS? And will it be any better than the faux 3D …
Poll: Star Wars In 3D? Yay Or Nay?
We know, we know. You hate people (cough*George Lucas*cough) messing with the original Star Wars trilogy. So do we. (Han shot first!) But sometimes the idea of watching it all in 3D is intriguing, at least. What say ye, Star Wars purists? Would you wear the funny glasses to have that prologue scroll out at you?

Panasonic 3D Camcorder Due in October for $1400
Panasonic’s HDC-SDT750 camcorder will be here in October with a price tag of $1,400. That’ll get you a decently outfitted 3-chip camcorder capable of shooting in 1080p at 60 frames per second. You’ll also get a special lens that you can attach to the camcorder, allowing you to shoot in 3D. So two cameras on one, sort of. Well maybe not …
Confirmed: Thor, Captain America Will Be 3D
Marvel has confirmed that both Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger will be released in 3D, and that both will be “upconverted” after being shot traditionally. Directors for both movies, Thor‘s Kenneth Branagh – currently in the middle of post-production – and Cap‘s Joe Johnston, seem excited about the final product, and well …
