When I woke this morning to find a funky-looking 24-key Moog synthesizer staring at me from just above Google's homepage search box, I knew exactly what I'd be writing about.
The subject of today’s birthday-bash Google Doodle, Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, made the invisible visible, established one of the metrics we use to measure musical pitch, computer processing speed, radar and Wi-Fi, and was sadly struck down by an incurable disease that destroyed his organs, ending his life at just 36. He would have been 155 today.
What’s big and scary and orange and glows in the dark? If you said a jack-o-lantern, close, but not quite: Try Google’s latest, greatest doodle, a time-lapse video of a quirky pumpkin-carving jamboree.

For the second day in a row, Google has changed the logo on the main Search page with a grayed out logo that comes to life as you type in your query. Is it a coincidence that Google is holding a Search event later today in California? Nope.
Over the weekend (9/4) Google celebrated the 25th anniversary of the discovery of the buckyball but today’s interactive logo on the homepage has us all scratching our heads. There is no major holiday, anniversary or historical event that would trigger a Google Doodle, so what’s the deal with today’s logo?
Nine-year-old Makenzie Melton from El Dorado Springs, Missouri, was chosen as the national winner of this year’s Doodle 4 Google contest, which of course, means her winning doodle is now featured on Google.com.
I just can’t get enough of these.
