America, the movie industry is very disappointed in you. The domestic box office total for 2010 was smaller than 2009′s, although IMAX can celebrate its most successful year to date, doubling its 2009 gross last year.
Warner Bros. has just announced the date for Batman 3 will be in theaters July 20, 2012. WB has yet to greenlight the film. Weird.
No, it’s not the sequel, but viewers might get a chance to head back into the theater for more Avatar as early as this summer.

Avatar is still chugging along, eyes fixed on toppling Titanic as the biggest box office haul of all time. But this is already a movie that’s done more than just alter our perceptions of popularity and profitability (though sequels are already apparently in the works – read our report from Friday here)

Okay, here’s the deal. You’re thinking about seeing Avatar tonight, yes, or this weekend? You know it features blue people. And that it’s set on a different planet.
