Remember the German guy who built his own working laser gun? That was nothing. The US Navy successfully tested their version of a weaponized laser, which they used to set fire to a boat off the coast of California.
George Lucas, if you’re reading, there’s a good reason why Han would have shot first: because he, like German laser hacker AnselmoFanZero, knew that lasers are very dangerous things capable of zapping holes through metal, plastic, and green dudes called Greedo.
Lasers are cool. They’re useful during presentations, can fix your eyesight, and are capable of propelling spacecraft along their solar sails. Sometimes, they even burn holes in stuff.
According to Lucasfilm it is, even though Wicked Lasers doesn’t advertise it as such. But let’s be honest, the hilt looks exactly like a lightsaber. Here’s what Lucasfilm’s General Counsel David Anderman had to say:
