The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday that it has partnered with a company to develop an electronic voting system for next year's 85th annual Academy Awards.
The five movies nominated for the “Best Visual Effects” Oscar have something fairly obvious in common: They all relied on special software to create the effects.
If all goes to plan, next year’s Academy Awards will be more up-to-date and allow voters the chance to see more of the nominated movies before choosing their favorites – or, perhaps, things might just go horribly wrong, and some entirely unexpected choices might walk away with Oscars that they didn’t actually win.
