Poor PSPGo, we hardly knew ye. Via Kotaku comes word that Sony will cease manufacturing of the digital-only variant of their gaming handheld. They’re stopping production of the PSPGo to focus on the upcoming NGP, the touch-centric, dual-stick device they announced earlier this year.
Everyone’s all abuzz about the NGP, Sony’s touch-tastic, dual-joystick successor to the PSP. No one knows how much it costs yet and the PlayStation powers-that-be will probably be keeping that under wraps until E3 comes up in June. The next iteration of Sony’s handheld gaming platform could be a lot closer than we’ve been led to believe. Develop is reporting that the Playstation parent company’s seeding development hardware to gamemakers far and wide.
A EuroGamer report coming out of GamesCom indicate that Sony’s showing a prototype of their next-generation gaming hardware to various partners. This would-be PSP2 supposedly has touchscreen interface on the back of the unit, which allegedly has the same form factor as the PSP-3000 series.
