Skype has filed for a U.S. IPO today and the Internet calling service is looking to raise $100 million after being sold off by eBay last fall. Some notable facts about the company were revealed in its filing with the SEC.
Skype’s on the verge of releasing a new version of its popular VOIP/instant messaging/video calling software to include support for group video calling with up to five people. You can take the beta version for a spin provided you and your fellow chatters have grabbed the same update.
This could be a huge blow to Skype users if it turns out to be true. Speaking to the UK’s Telegraph, Skype CEO Josh Silverman says the ads would be “done in a tasteful way.”
Skype Mobile will be available on nine Verizon smartphones starting this Thursday. The app will allow users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls and send Sype-to-Skype instant messages over Verizon’s network without using plan minutes or data allowances.
