This list is going to start with the death of a universe.  Marvel’s Ultimate Universe.  This decade featured the rise and fall of the Ultimate line of comics (Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and The Ultimates).  Effectively a reboot of the big names and teams of Marvel, the experiment was a huge success but as each series got older and more and more stale stories crept in from the original Marvel U it was clear that the reboot needed a reboot.  Thus Ultimatum.  The series and its tie-ins were not well received.  Some of the over 30 major characters killed in Ultimatum were most of the X-Men, Daredevil, Thor, Wasp, and Doctor Doom.
