Derelict Alien Ship

When it comes to most movie spaceships, the goal is to design something futuristic, and awe-inspiring – to offer a glimpse of the technology that one day could come to be. But the sole purpose of the abandoned derelict spaceship in “Alien” is to hint at something that’s gone very, very wrong – to foreshadow the bloody fate that awaits the human spaceship as well. It’s this abandoned hulk of metal that both expands the horizons of the story and undermines the supremacy of all this future technology, suggesting that the crew has been overrun by a superior force. I’ve seen plenty of spaceships that are exciting, awe-inspiring, ingenious; this is one of the few spaceships I’ve ever seen that scares the begeezus out of me.
