9. Gran Turismo 3 (2001)

Next: The Sims

Gran Turismo 3 came out in July of 2001. I barely slept that summer. It was like nothing I’d seen before – it was like crack. Not that I know what it’s like to be on crack. Looking back now, GT3 set the standard for all racing simulators and no other title has made the same impact on the genre. It pushed the limits of the PS2 and showed everyone what the platform was capable of doing. Not that it was perfect because it wasn’t and it didn’t actually handle much differently than GT2. But the graphics and sound really put it over the top. And it was huge game. I don’t think I even came close to completing it. For a really long time, it was the game to have and I still consider it one of the best PS2 games of all time. Unfortunately, it ruined everything else for me and I don’t play racing games anymore.
