This barbarian-based action/adventure fused really, really gory melee combat with beautiful hand-drawn storytelling segments and great voicework. With his broad nose, swarthy skin and elaborate ink tattoos, a heavy Pacific Islander influence showed up in the game’s warrior hero Rau. It made for a nice change from the generic WASP type. Rau’s fight was against a conspiracy of dark magic that threatened to sacrifice his sister and his path to vengeance was stunningly bloody for the time period. Mark of Kri innovated with clever gameplay mechanics, too, like using the right analog stick to tag opponents during 360º combat and the remote viewing ability–through the eyes of Rau’s bird familiar–to scout ahead. If you can find this one for cheap, scoop it up.
