Here’s a movie that imagines a permanent human presence on the moon, but then can’t think of anything more imaginative than a nightclub that gets blown up by mobsters who want the reluctant owner to usher in gambling tables. A plot line out of the prohibition era has been transported to the moon, pinstripe suits and all, and the comedy basically consists of Eddie Murphy running around like a maniac, trying not to get killed. One of the most expensive flops of all time, the studio believed so little in the movie that it delayed its released for more than a year, and then shoveled it into theaters without even screening for the press. Not just DOA, this was dead from the first rewrite.
