I’m just going to keep saying it: Googlephone, Googlephone, Googlephone. Even though it’s not the Googlephone, it’s the T-Mobile G1. Whatever. Bring on your lawyers Sergei Brin!

Anyway. Just wanted to point you to Anita Hamilton’s good old-fashioned rave for the Googlephone. I haven’t spent a ton of time with it, but I can say that it looks better in person than it does in pictures. The flip-out touchscreen feels a lot more solid than I expected, and the screen is very bright and sharp. If you want to get seriously granular, ZDnet has a 7-page feature-by-feature walkthrough. (It’s also an overall positive review.)

At first I kinda figured this thing for a glorified tech demo — proof of concept, basically. But I’m starting to think it might actually be a contender. It’s going to be so interesting to watch how this face-off works, between the iPhone and the Googlephone. It’s the ultimate showdown between open and closed …
