Another weekend, another revelation about the casting of the upcoming “Thor” blockbuster, being developed by Marvel and directed by Kenneth Branagh.

In an interview with MTV News, Natalie Portman – who is set to star in “Thor” as Jane Foster alongside Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopins and Idris Elba – let slip that Kat Dennings has also been cast for the adaptation. That’s Kat Dennings, as in the co-star of “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist;” the brash, bewitching brunette who now seems to be making the jump from the comedy world (“The House Bunny,” “Nick and Norah’s”) to the big-time stage of a summer blockbuster.

As for what role Dennings is going to play, speculation swirls. Late Monday night, SlashFilm posted the theory that she will be Marcy Lewis, pointing to a casting call that summarized Marcy as someone who “deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass.” Does Dennings fit the bill?

The more we hear about “Thor,” the more excited we get. There is some serious talent at the table here, all being led by Branagh, one of the most gifted artists working in any medium today. This is not going to be your standard superhero puff piece. Get ready for something impressive.
