Google’s Free GPS Navigation Coming to Non-Android Phones

Google recently revealed that its free GPS navigation software that currently runs on newer Android devices will someday be available on other smartphone platforms such as the iPhone. No timetable’s been given but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it made available for BlackBerry and perhaps Palm devices, at the very least. Maybe Windows Phone 7 handsets, too.

The information was revealed at a recent press event in London, although details are pretty scant at the moment. You’ll recall that the navigation software was first available on the Motorola DROID and features traffic, satellite, and first-person street view imaging along with voice search, car dock mode, and a host of other goodies. Not bad for free GPS software.
