Steve Ballmer Will Not Be Speaking at Apple Conference

Rumors of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer taking the stage for seven minutes at Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference have been greatly exaggerated. So exaggerated, in fact, that none of it’s true at all.

Microsoft just posted the following to its Twitter account:

“Steve Ballmer not speaking at Apple Dev Conf. Nor appearing on Dancing with the Stars. Nor riding in the Belmont. Just FYI.”

Ah, there’s that famous Microsoft humor at work.

It’s a shame because it would have been uncomfortably awesome to see Jobs and Ballmer play nice for the crowd. The original speculation was that Ballmer was going “to talk about Visual Studio 2010, the company’s suite of development tools.” Specifically that developers would be able to use Visual Studio 2010 to create iPhone, iPad, and Mac OS X applications. That’s not listed anywhere on the product page and a search for “iPhone” on the same site turns up a whole lot of nothing.
