Surprising nobody thanks to several early hands-on demos and leaks, Verizon and Motorola made the Droid X official today and announced a launch date of July 15th. The phone will be priced at $200 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two year contract.
Features include a 1GHz processor, a 4.3-inch 854×480 touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture, 8GB of built-in storage expandable to 40GB via microSD card, and Android 2.1 with an update to Android 2.2 coming “in the latter half of this summer” that will bring with it Flash 10.1 support.
The Droid X can handle HDMI output to compatible monitors and TVs. It can also act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for an extra $20 per month, turning your Verizon 3G connection into a mobile router for nearby computers and phones.
Current Verizon customers with contracts ending December 31, 2010 or earlier will be allowed to upgrade to the Droid X without penalty.
