Samsung hasn’t necessarily been coy about its plans to develop a tablet, and it appears that the company is preparing to officially unveil it in early September at the Berlin-based IFA consumer electronics show.

According to Korea’s JoongAng Daily, the tablet will be part of Samsung’s "Galaxy" family of products—the company’s Android-based Galaxy S smartphones have just hit various carriers recently. The tablet is apparently nicknamed the "Galaxy Tab" for now.

Rumors suggest that the tablet will have a 7-inch touchscreen, run Android, and feature video calling, though there’s no word on how much it’ll cost or when it’ll be available. Hopefully we’ll hear more in September.

If Samsung is able to fit the tablet with the same type of "Super AMOLED" screen found in the Galaxy S smartphones it could make things pretty interesting. The screens are more power efficient and lightweight than conventional touchscreens and allow for thinner body designs.
