Dual-Core Netbooks Slowly Starting to Trickle Out

Intel’s dual-core Atom N550 processor has made its way into netbooks and some of those netbooks are available for purchase now.

Acer has a 10.1-inch Aspire One netbook selling through HSN.com already for just under $400. The netbook sports the 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of new-ish DDR3 memory, which ought to add a little more zip than other netbooks with single-core chips and DDR2 memory.

The faster processor also lends a little hope to being able to watch high-definition and Flash-based video smoothly—something that’s been problematic for netbooks from the get-go.

Intel announced availability for the N550 earlier this week, so expect to see more and more dual-core netbooks rolling out shortly.
