Dream a Little Bigger: Inception Video Game On Its Way?

Christopher Nolan’s dreamtime action-thriller has racked up $753 million worldwide and now its director is saying that he’s looking to take the film’s subconscious security exploits to video games. The quote from Variety:

“We are looking at doing is developing a videogame based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can’t fit into a feature film…That’s something we’ve been talking about and are looking at doing long term, in a couple of years.”

This seems like a natural fit as there was a lot of video game logic in Inception. The ideas of a level designer, of each person’s brain generating natural defenses that an intruder would have to overcome and of meeting goals in order to resolve tension are all already common to most mainstream video games. This wouldn’t be the first Nolan film to get a video game tie-in either. There was a underwhelming Batman Begins game from EA a few years back that’s best left forgotten.

If any Inception game is being brewed, it’s likely happening with the involvement of Warner Brothers Interactive. There’s a lot of internal desire at Warner Bros to sync up their tentpole properties with releases across multiple media. So, it’ll be interesting to see if this actually happens. Most importantly, an Inception game would require a great developer and I nominate Rocksteady Studios. They’ve already got a relationship with Warner Brothers and are going to need something to do after Batman: Arkham City, right?
