The franchise-ing of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead continues apace. Even before the (much-anticipated) television series debuts on AMC at the end of this month, it’s been revealed that the long-running comic will get its own series of prose spin-offs from a subsiduary of St. Martin’s Press. The three novels will be outlined by Kirkman before being written by horror novelist Jay Bonansinga, and will launch next year from Thomas Dunne books.

Walking Dead will be far from the first comic to make the jump from pictures to prose; DC Comics regularly put out prose editions of popular storylines, and both Fables and Hellboy have had original prose novels spun-off from their ongoing comics in recent years.
