Though it hasn’t been announced what network the show Todd McFarlane’s Spawn will be reappearing on, the creator insists that it will keep the same mature content that the show had on the original HBO series. He said the show is “going to a cable network, and [adult-themed programming] is their bread and butter,” to MTV News.

McFarlane explained:
To some extent, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The three years [that ‘Spawn’] was on HBO, it won an Emmy — two of ’em — for various reasons. They’re going, ‘Just give us what you’re doing. You know what you’re doing, just bring it over here and don’t put it on their channel, put it on my channel.’ So I don’t think it’s going to be an issue once we get down to it.

HBO has been known for taking risks with their programing, including Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, the 18-episode animated series based on the Spawn comic book series that ran from 1997 – 1999. The adult-themed cartoon,which featured excessive violence and sexuality, preceded Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and much of Comedy Central’s mature cartoon programing. McFarlane announced in August 2009 via his Twitter that the Emmy-winning show will be returning this year, despite legal issues delaying the process 10 years. He added later in an additional interview with MTV that he has won the rights to the series and most of the work that had been completed since the show went off the air.

No prizes for guessing which network the show is heading to, but with AMC taking blood-splattering zombies on, HBO showing explicit vampire sex and Showtime featuring a sympathetic serial killer murderer, the show could fit in a number of places. Should McFarlane return back to HBO, which let him express his creativity back then? Or should he look for another home for Spawn?
